How to Decorate a Large Wall With a Vaulted Ceiling

    • 1). Feature a dominant hue. Don't allow the wall to lay bare. Instead, select a bold hue from your decorating color palate and cover the wall with this color. Use this as an accent wall, placing the color you select only on this surface, not on other walls.

    • 2). Place a bold, large wall hanging in the center of the wall. Pick a piece that fits well with the accent color, but don't match it too closely, as you want to create contrast. Consider the color of both the work of art and the frame. For example, instead of placing a piece of art in a black frame on a black wall, select a lighter framed piece to ensure adequate contrast.

    • 3). Add decorative features that accentuate the wall height. Choose articles that are tall to draw attention to the wall height. For example, if you place a potted plant at the base of the wall, choose one with long stalks that extend up the wall instead of a low ground-cover plant.

    • 4). Make this wall a focal point by lighting it. Add canon lights, sunk into the ceiling, to point at the wall, or install track lighting on the portion of the ceiling that rests right above the wall. Point this track lighting at the work of art you hung to finish the look.
